Arvind Swamy was reared by his foster parents, V.D Swamy, an industrialist, and Vastanha Swamy, a Bharatnatyam dancer, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Arvind attended Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School and graduated in 1987. He graduated from Loyola College in Chennai with a Commerce degree and then moved to the United States to earn a master's degree in International Business at Wake Forest University in North Carolina.
